LEAVE AND LIVE
A fit of rage accompanied by hot adrenaline surge, anger like molten magma, refusing to see reason or yield to the still small voice of reason... No amount of apology would suffice; a mark must be left for remembrance. " I must teach him a lesson", no one messes with my emotions and goes scot free"... Sadly, it would be the mark that causes a spouse to depart from this side of life! A lesson gone wrong with dire consequences...
Then sets in the regret, an alleged attempt to cover up a crime of passion, evidences which might have led to a lesser sentence got tempered with; alas the gavel comes down hard... DEATH BY HANGING! Now who faces the music?
It is awash on the media, Justice has taken its cause, no tears of regret and appeal for mercy would upturn the verdict of Justice Yusuf Halilu whose conviction was based on Section 221 of the Penal Code.
Even the defence attorney's allocutus plea made no difference, justice had been served.
It has been said that thou shall not kill. Whoever kills in cold blood shall die in cold blood, Maryam Sanda should reap what she has sown. It is blood for blood.
How many women have gotten off the crime of passion thus far,? Aren't many of us Just like Maryam? Just like the lucky thief, we haven't been caught yet! We have managed to escape a date with the hangman's noose... Anger triggers violent acts if not controlled, in this case, the unquenchable fuel of jealousy, was all that was required to cause an irreparable damage. Now many ask;' " why did she not walk away? Didn't she know he was entitled to marry four wives? Didn't she come in as a second wife? Questions, questions and much more belated questions...
Two innocent children are now caught in the aftermath resultant web of this crime of passion. They may end up losing both father and mother due to an irrational decision, triggered by a now inconsequential moment of mad jealousy. The future reference of " oh, their mother murdered their father", remains a dark cloud that will never quite fade away from their horizon. The thought of the attendant trauma on them makes me cringe...
Sylvia Smith in an article titled: Jealousy: the causes and the Concerns in marriage traces its origin to poor self esteem, insecurity and sibling rivalry. She doesn't just end there but adds that unrealistic expectations in marriage is a potent ingredient for jealousy. hey, there's more to learn HERE .
The days ahead would no doubt witness appeals but while we follow this saga, the important lesson remains " don't make irrational decisions when you are mad...Legs were gifted to humankind to walk away from situations which may land one in a Sanda like situation.
Imbibe the culture of walking way, reflect, meditate, clear your head and take no counsel from " if it were me" friends, who are no qualified therapists or counsellors. Separation is better than murder... Divorce is preferable to death.
When next you are tempted, when you experience a surge of adrenaline from anger; remember Maryam Sanda and take a walk...
LEAVE AND LIVE!!!
Or would you rather take a date in court for the hangman's noose verdict???
It's unfortunate that Maryam Samda turned out to be the kind of person that she is...in my opinion, she didn't get a good upbringing, hence her nosedive into her temperament...and its unfortunate results.
